- Initial briefing about your business needs
- Defining your business problem
- Developing your research objectives
- Identifying the respondent / participant requirements
- Screening of potential respondents / participants
- Designing the online survey or online discussion guide
- Pilot testing the online focus group or survey
- Making adjustments to the online survey or online discussion guide
- Scheduling the research
- Conducting the research (distributing surveys / moderating focus groups)
- Initial client debriefing
- Performing the research analysis
- Reporting, transcript and presentation delivery
- Strategic recommendations & debrief
Research objectives
When you come to us with a question you need answering we will work with you to define the research problem and develop your research objectives. To do this effectively we will ask you these questions:
- What is happening that requires research to be conducted?
- What is it that you want to know and how will the answers be used?
- What decisions will be made from the answers revealed in this research?
- Who is the information for and what do the stakeholders have invested in the answer?
Focusing on the questions
Its important to remember there is only 60 to 90 minutes to complete an online focus group and approximately 15 to 20 minutes for an individual to effectively complete an online survey. To get the answers you need it is important we will work with you to narrow down and pinpoint the project’s research objectives. For online focus groups this means keeping the research plan focused on three key topics, and for online surveys keeping the length of the survey to around twenty questions. By focusing only on the questions you need answers to we will improve the quality of the results and maximise the return on your research investment.
For online focus groups, if you have more than three topics to cover we will suggest you rate them in order of importance and make a decision on the top three. If you still need to cover more topics we will be recommending you conduct additional online focus groups.
Online focus groups discussion guide
The focus group discussion guide what we use to build the online research plan. It is a list of proposed group activities which will assist us in achieving the research objectives.
Real-time online focus groups require good instructional content for participants to develop ideas, solve problems and make decisions. The research plan we put together for you is intended to generate group discussion, elicit opinions and reveal complex issues. We work with you to pull together group stimuli for the group including images, videos and other information which will assist us in creating the discussion guide. The discussion guide will be submitted to you for approval before we begin creating the online focus group research plan. Once we have created the online research plan we test the logic (flow of the discussion guide and stimulus) and make sure it can be completed within allotted time. If the discussion guide or stimulus needs refining or changing we will come back to you with suggestions and recommendations.
Designing online surveys
All online surveys are designed and submitted for approval before they are created in the online environment. Once the survey has been approved we will add it to the system and preform a pilot test with a number of respondents to ensure the logic (ordering of questions) is performing as intended and the data being received will achieve the projects research objectives.
